Borivali Biryani Center - (BBC)

This is for all Biryani loves.............

Borivali Biryani Center (BBC) which originally started at Borivali (West) has extended its reach in some more suburb areas of Mumbai.

My first encounter with BBC happened recently at Goregoan, their newly opened outlet.

As the name goes their specialty is Biryani. Mainly Chicken Dum Biryani, Mutton Dum Biryani and Veg Biryani.

I haven’t personally visited other outlets of BBC which are in Borivali and Malad. But my experience at Goregoan outlet was awesome………..

I ordered for Chicken Biryani and Reshmi Kababs and given my experience in judging this kind of delicacies, I say it was great and have triggered my taste buds to have it again.

About the ambience of this place it looks more like a lunch house, not a great place to take your family for fooding. Better go for home delivery options you will enjoy it more sitting at home.

They serve variety of Snacks & Soups, Tandoori Delicacies (Kababs), Sea Food  and Gravy Special dishes (mostly Mughlai).

Moti Mahal

I wanted to throw out a treat for my parents a “Just Like That Treat”. So I thought what’s better than “Queen Of the Suburbs” or nowadays know as “Restaurant Suburb of Mumbai” --- Bandra. Since more restaurants open and close in Bandra every few months than any other location in Mumbai.

One great place to know for “All Family Treat” with a royal touch is “Moti Mahal”.

Since it was my second visit to this place and my first visit was not good enough to recall me the exact location. I had to pull off the voyage with some telephonic assistance from my friends. After such savoir-faire one I will never forget this place again, And also I have it recorded “Go to Bandra Linking road, take a deep left from National College, watch out for the second right after you approach Orchid, and there it is just by the corner, simple!!!”
[Don’t go with this reference, please find the complete postal address below]

Ok now the order list. Here it goes: -

Chicken Manchow Soup -> Good
Machhi Tikka BulandShah -> OK
Kakori Kabab -> Good
Kalimiri Murg Tikka -> Great
Peshawari Kadai Murg -> Good
Bhuna Gosht -> Good

About the ambience: -
Comfortable sofa and chair arrangements. Surely not a huge place to look around but equally not congested. The entire restaurant is divided into small cubic areas and my general observation is that families are mostly sited together, while young couples are in some other arena.

Other Services: -
They provide valet parking

ALL Season’s

Few days back we celebrated my parents wedding anniversary at this place. After a fairly longtime we all were having dinner together in a restaurant, so we were pretty enthusiastic about this.

We selected this place for the occasion, since the place is located near to our house and most of us didn’t wanted to travel to some distant place than.

This place is located along the highway, thus getting in and out of parking is fairly easy.
The ambience is comprised of different areas suitable for different moods and likings. One it has a family section, Second a smoking zone; a section mostly occupied by bachelors, Third a spots bar and Fourth a banquette area mostly used for parties.

They serve both North Indian and Chinese cuisines.

I specially liked Chicken Rahra (Chicken with red spicy gravy) and Chicken Panchwati (Smaller version of Mix Platter). But what disappointed me was Mutton Seekh Kabab. The kababs were half cooked, thus nobody eat it and the dish was wasted.

For a meal of two it should cost you around Rs.500

1000 Oaks

1000 Oaks also popularly knows as T-OAKS.

An amazing place I should say, this was my first visit and I was totally taken way by the culture of this place.

1000 Okas, this place is divided into three sections a garden section, a non-smoking zone and a bar.

The bar section is acquainted with music, thus very popular within teenagers. The garden section is mainly used for dinner purpose.

Here at 1000 Oaks they mainly serve North Indian food, but also deliver variety of kababs.

Here we had Barman’s Picther, a heady mix of vodka, gin, white rum, beer, martini, rose water etc. It was awesome, I suggest you should taste this thing at least once doesn’t matter whether you are a hardcore drunker or amateur juice sipper.

For starters we had Fish Tikka, Shaami Kabab and Murgh Hariyali Tikka. Shaami Kabab taste fabulous, so we order few more of it.

As most people will agree with me saying, this is not an expensive place at all.

It cost us Rs.400 per person only.

Other Services:

They provide banquet services in their premises and are also open for providing catering services at your preferred location.

Blue Nile

Being a Mumbaikar I always keep looking for places where I can have food of similar taste and value.

Today we will talk about a place, which had inspired me to start this Blog. First time when I visited this place, it reminded me of having food at Bade Miya in Mumbai. And I got this thought of spreading information about such places.

This Irani resturant does not have any luxuries ambiance, but the food they serve here does all the magic. Thus this place is occupied all 7 days a week. They serve Mughlai, Chinese and Indian dishes. But their specialty is Chicken and Mutton Biryani.

This was my second visit to the place coincidently with the same friends who introduced me to this place. They too like me always keep looking for new zest wherever they go.

This time you won’t envy me since I am not going to disclose the list of dishes we had at this place. One reasons of not listing the dishes is that we haven’t got a list to mention since the restaurant manager refused to give us the itemized bill; instead we got a bill having only the grand total mentioned. Anyways they might require it for some accounting purpose, which I don’t understand.

So if you want to know about the taste then I assure you it’s similar to one served at Bade Miya.

A meal of 2 should cost you around Rs.350

I say, a diehard non-vegetarian must visit this place at least once.

Meeting Place

After a longtime, got an opportunity to visit this place. This place is bit special for me, as I use to date a lot here with my wife (before marriage).

We have seen this place grow and flourish with time. Initially it use to be a quiet place less known to others, but nowadays its hard finding a place to settle especially on weekends.

Early in my life I realized that dating is a costly affair. Luckily this place was a perfect match to my pocket.

We used to spend hours at this place just sipping soup and tasting starters.

There are very few places in Thakur Complex that serve non-veg food, and this is one of them.

I like this place for two reasons, first they serve good Chinese food and second it’s very economical (a great place for dating if your dating habits are pretty frequent).

On our last visit to this place, we had our favorite Chicken Manchow Soup. For starters we had Ginger Chicken and ended with main course having Butter Chicken and Butter Naan.

For a meal of two it cost us Rs. 220

To summaries I say “ It’s a great place for Meeting, But for me it will always be a Dating Place ”.

Urban Tadka - The Indian Bestro

My wife’s birthday and our wedding anniversary gave us a twin opportunity for partying in one of the popular food chains in Mumbai, known as “Urban Tadka”.

One of its outlets is right next to our house. So we planned a dinner to this place with our family.

As it was a weekday, we thought that finding a place to settle should not be a challenge.
So we arrived there at around 9pm. And to all our surprise the joint was flooded with guests. Fortunately we got a nice setting to accommodate six of us.

The ambience of this place reminds me of having food at some Dhaba on National Highway. Contrast to its name “Urban Tadka”, they should start calling this place “Rural Tadka” by looking at its venue. Anyways it is great place with a difference.

We wanted to start with a soup, but I forgot they don’t serve Chinese food. Luckily they had Tomato ka Shorba (Tomato Soup), so we ordered one. While my cousin ordered for Paya ka Shorba (Paya Soup). Starters comprised of Hara Bhara Kabab, Seek Kabab and Koliwada Fish Fry (made using Ravas Fish). Koliwada Fish Fry was delicious and my mom loved it, hopefully she will start preparing it for us at home.

In main course we had both veg and non-veg dishes. In veg we had Tawey Ki Sabzi and Ambarsariya Chicken.

The deserts they server are bit different for one conventionally provided at other India Cuisines. They serve Gulab Jamun, Jalebi with Rabadi, Phirnee (Also known as Kheer made of Rice or Rice Pudding) etc. Me and my mom both are crazy both sweets, so how could we miss on this opportunity. I ordered Jalebi with Rabadi for myself while mom ordered for Phirnee. And I should say both were fabulous.

For a meal of two it should cost Rs. 500

Cascade - Around The World Cuisine

I was eagerly waiting for a longtime to take my friends to this place. Fortunately I got an opportunity to do the same on last Sunday.

After watching the movie “U Me aur Hum”…It was left on me to decide the venue for dinner. And how could I miss this one, I promptly announced the name “Cascade”.

We arrived at this place say around 10:30pm; But I forgot it was Sunday......there was a long waiting queue.

But we were determined, that we will have dinner at this place only. So we waited for 45 minutes and finally our opening strike.

We were well place on the table, which was situated to the middle of the restaurant. They have a circle formation sitting for all the seats in the middle row. A semi-circle is made up of chairs while the other half is made of sofa.

To start with soup, couple ordered for Hot & Sour Chicken some ordered Hot & Sour Veg while others went for Cream of Mushroom. Then came the starters and I jumped to order my favorite Suzie Wong Chicken, you will not find it anywhere else (at least I haven’t.....if you are lucky please share it with me). While the veg starter was Hara Bhara Kabab. The veg-e friends ended their dinner with Green Chilli Panner and Butter Naan in main course, while myself and Manish (foody bhai) ordered for sizzlers. Manish ordered Chicken Fajitas while I went for Chicken Citadel sizzler.

Everyone loved the food and venue selection done by me.

On an average it will cost you Rs.700, for a meal of two.

They also have a lounge, where they have DJ arranged for the guests. I am not sure about other particulars since I just had a glimpse of the place.

Rasoi

Going out for dinner/lunch was not a frequent activity as it is nowadays. My parents use to take us for dinner to few known places, and they all served vegetarian food only.

If my memory is serving me well, Rasoi was the place where I tasted a non-veg dish for the first time (one not prepared by my mom).

After that I have been to this place for N number of times (exactly don’t remember how many times?). But in writing I am mentioning it for the first time. Whenever we want to have non-veg food or we are not in a mood of trying something new, this place is always our default preference.

To mention, I am sharing the experience I had on my recent visit. I was accompanied with my wife, which is true in most cases.

We order for Chicken Manchow Soup, which is the most preferred soup by both of us. We believe that if Manchow Soup is well prepared, then the restaurant is good enough to try for Chinese food. For starters we went for Chicken Salt & Pepper, which initially felt tasteless since prior we had Manchow Soup, but it carried well at the end. You will like it if you have a taste for Pepper. Main course was comprised of Butter Naan and Butter Chicken (My wife’s favorite main course item). To accompany all these we both had some Fresh Lime Soda too.

Total meal cost us Rs. 500.

With all my experiences at this place I give it a rating of SIX. It is a true Family Restaurant, at least for us.

Neelam’s Pride - Family Restaurant

After a long time I got to meet one of my good friend. We wanted to have lunch some place where we can sit and share our lost time. And the place settled for this occasion was Neelam’s Pride.

We arrived at this place at around 1:30 pm, hoping to find the place less busy. Which was not the case, at least not on the side where we were settled.

My friend ordered for Tomato Soup, which we shared. While I decided the starters, and as you know me by now I wouldn’t have settled for any thing less than non-veg, so I ordered Fish Fingers. Both to start with were pretty average for my taste.

So in pursue of having something better than average, I ordered Chicken Tika Masala and Butter Naan in main course. And I was desolated again, Chicken Tika Masala was away below my expectations. If you ask me I will give just 2 points on a scale of 1 to 10.

Total meal cost us Rs. 479.

Aside from food everything else was above average on that noon.

Royal Fantasy

After a long break, here had a chance on last Thursday for one more night out. This time it was a place call Royal Fantasy. We were accompanied with some new friends, sadly they all were vegetarian and more on that they preferred non-alcoholic beverages.

As the name goes Royal Fantasy, we were given a royal sitting. We were three couples occupying two tables made to accommodate ten guests.

In soup I ordered for Hot and Sour Chicken, undoubtedly they serve one of the best I ever had. In starter we went for Fish Tikka and Chicken Kabab while the veg-e friends ordered for Paneer Chilly. Since no one was in a mood of full-meal, we ordered Dal Fry and Steamed Rice to call off the feast.

The quality of food served here is first-rated, but I was not swayed with the quantity of food.

A special mention, whichever dish you try here each dish will deliver something new which may or may not suit your taste, but will give you a feel of having something different even if you have been eating it for you lifetime.

For people who love watching sport (especially cricket in India), they have a wide LCD TV too. So you catch up a TV event while outing your family for lunch or dinner.

Food for two should cost around Rs. 750

Patio "The Fine Dining"

Patio…. my second visit to this place, last time was Valentines Day.
As against last time, this time we were pretty determined that we will have most of all seafood.

It was around 11pm when we reached this place, and luckily we got a nice sitting. Not to mention, if we would have sited some other place it still would have been good, coz this place has a good ambience in general.

When the waiter realized, that we were up for seafood only. He animatedly demonstrated us the available variety of fresh fish, and for that moment we were the center of attraction. As all were guessing what are we goanna order next ?.

We ordered for Sp. Pomfret, which was served in two flavors. Half pomfret was prepared in green gravy while the remaining in red tandoor style.

But I became fan of Fish Kurkure Kabab they where awesome !!!. Fish Kukure Kabab was mixture of smashed fish plus prawns, deep fired in form of small tikas (pieces).

That was for starter…In main course we ordered for Prawns Hara Masala, which was equally spicy and well-matched our taste.

It should cost in a range of Rs.300-Rs.400 per person,
if you go for a four course meal which will including soup+starters+main course+deserts.

Pav Bhaji Special -- Shagun

On last friday evening I was rushing to catch a train from Dadar station.

The train was supposed to arrive at 11:00pm. Thanks to my fabulous timekeeping skills I reached their 1:30 hrs early to departure.

I was empty stomach and knew will have to spend next 10 hrs traveling, so this was a great opportunity to have some victuals pushed.

Also since I was alone, didn’t want to have a heavy meal….so thought will have some chicken soup on run.

I never visited any restaurant in Dadar area, especially the West part. So you can call this my first exploit.

Its 20min passed from my arrival

40min passed ……………….

60min passed………………..

Now, I was frustrated. Can’t find a single ***** place to have a simple chicken soup.

Last 30min and I desperately wanted something to eat.

I stepped in this pure veg. restaurant “Shagun”.

The restaurant was full, seem to me like a lunch house (it was dinner time though).

I wanted to order something which would keep me contented in my journey and swiftly perishable, some kind of heavy fast food stuff.

So, what could be better than Pav Bhaji ?????

I ordered one Cheese Pav Bhaji and my favorite soft drink Thums Up.

For a moment I thought, I made a mistake opting this place, since now I was racing against time (if you remember I had to catch a train).

Surprise……..my order was in front of me in no time.

Second Surprise……….

”Where is the Bhaji in this dish, I can only see Cheeeeesssssseeeeeeee”………..Wow!!!!

Too good, This Cheese Pav Bhaji was so awesome that I had to order some more extra Pavs (Rs.6 each).

The Cheese Pav Bhaji cost me Rs. 50 but was worth the 50 miles hound made before entering this place.

Pure Andhra Mess & PG

If your office is located in place like MBP (Millennium Business Park…just another IT park), rummage around for homemade food is like looking for water in a desert.

But thanks to Prasad (my colleague), who is too a foody like me took me to this small down town mess which is slowly becoming a hit among the bachelors who are from Andhra or like the tasty Andhra food.

I with Parsad and one another colleague visited this place today for lunch at around 1pm.
We were lucky to get a place to sit as we arrived (these lunch houses at lunch time are like starvation zones).

Prasad order for Rice plate while myself and Abhishek (another colleague) went for Biriyani (single plate, obviously we shared). Rice and Biriyani are the two specialties served here, and to your surprise these are the only items on the menu.

A Rice plate is served for one and will cost you Rs. 50, but the serves are unlimited.
While Biriyani will cost you Rs. 75 (limited), easily can serve up two.

Rice plate comes with special rice-Papad, andra special groundnut Chatni and Dal (all this in the first serving).

In the second serve Sambar is add to your rice, while in our final serve you can even go for Rasam.

Biriyani was served with Raita and special Spice Curry.

Talking about the ambience, as I said it’s a small mess. So pls don’t except it to be a great place for family hangouts………Anyways, for lunch you won’t find such hygienic and home made food near MBP.

Also got to know that they have branches at Kooparkharanie & Ghansoli.

To call a halt, I will say this place is like a mothers kitchen to people who are away from home (especially Andhra).

Other Services:
They also provide accommodation in corporate guesthouses.

Koyla - "The Hyderabad House"

The idea of spending weekend at Pune was not too rousing in the beginning. But thanks to my very good friend Manish, for opening me to the happening treads in Pune city.
A late night drive to Korgaon Park was like entering the den of pubescent life of Bandra in Mumbai.

After watching “Jodha Akbar” the movie, eating at Koyla was an experience, as if we were on the movie sets.

We arrived Koyla, at around 10:45pm. But had to wait for our turn next 30mins. I was introduced to Koyla as a place where you can get Mughlai food in this case Hyderabadi.

The restaurant has place to serve around 29-30 people comfortable at a time. A comfortable sofa style sitting was provided at each table.

But the service was awful; we had to repeat the orders twice and make sure we get what we wanted. Also I suspect we were the last customer to be served for the day, orders were delivery to our table with such fleetness that we had our starters first and the soup next.

The real disappointment streaked when we were asked to place our final order for liquor around 12:00am and for food at around 12:30am.

On an average the meal cost for 2 should be around Rs.900

The good part happened when we left the restaurant, the doorkeeper offered us masala pan (obviously free).
